Professional Organizations

Christopher Andersen is active in state and national educational organizations, having served as coordinator for the National Association for Research in Science Teaching conference's Informal Science Learning strand and as a member of the National Science Teachers Association's Committee on Informal Science Teaching, the American Educational Research Association's Informal Learning Environments Research Special Interest Group, the National Association for Research in Science Teaching's Equity and Ethics Committee, the School Science and Mathematics Association's convention program committee, and the boards of directors of the Science Education Council of Ohio and the Ohio Council for Elementary School Science.

Journals

Dr. Andersen serves as a reviewer for the journals Cognition and Instruction and the Journal for Research in Science Teaching. He is a past managing editor of the Electronic Journal of Science Education and served as guest editor for the "Developmental Psychology: Implications for Teaching" special issue of Theory Into Practice (Autumn 2004).

Government, Business, and Not-for-Profit Organizations

Dr. Andersen was a member of the Science Advisory Committee of the Joint Council of the Ohio Board of Regents and State Board of Education, which served as the advisory body for the development of the state's K-12 science standards. He is currently a member of the Ohio Mathematics and Science Coalition, an advocacy group of representatives from business, government, and education that works for the improvement of mathematics, science, and technology education in the state. In addition, he serves on the board of directors of the Science Center of Inquiry, a not-for-profit organization that promotes inquiry approaches to K-12 science instruction. He also works with the Friends of COSI, which supports the science museum's mission through fundraising and advocacy projects.
