Welcome to this crappy page where you can download lots of information about PC hardware.

If you're looking for information regarding jumper settings, BIOS settings, board layout, and other technical details about some really odd hardware that you have that fell out of the sky and is called "StarBright Video Card" or something like that, you might be helped by the Total Hardware 1999 collection of computer hardware settings.

Please note the date -- 1999. Therefore, if you've lost the manual for your nVidia GF4 or your P4 3.14159GHz and you need to know what JP15 does, I'm sorry, this won't be of any help to you. On the other hand, if your dad's friend's boss's uncle gave you some old 286 from his basement that he couldn't get to work, you might have some luck. In general, the information here will only be useful if you have older hardware and no manual and you need to get the jumpers in the right order. Either way, have a look around. It might be interesting.

Okay. I've set up a torrent. Please note that this is my very first time using the trackerless client. It might work and it might not. If you have worthwhile comments or assistance you can provide, then by all means, email me. If you're just going to complain or ask how to make it work, don't bother. Again, this is still very much of a testing thing. You'll probably require the mainline beta client from bittorrent.com.

With that, I present to you th99.tar.bz2.torrent (128MB).

***UPDATE [07/18/05]***

Hi. I've not updated this page in a while. So I thought I'd put something new here so people know I'm not dead. Unfortunately, that's more than can be said for many of the links on the Downloads page. Most of these are dead and you shouldn't expect for them to work. In the year since my last update, my ISP has moved to some newer hardware which means things *might* be a little faster; but, for text stuff, you probably can't tell anyway. Another development that has occurred in the last year is a trackerless version of BitTorrent. I've been thinking about trying it out by putting up a torrent of all of the different incantations of the TH99 archive that I've collected since starting this page. Keep an eye out to see if I ever do this.

Oh, I may not update my Contact page right away, so you should know, if you want to contact me, that my @gcfn.org address finally died :(. That was my first email address ever (actually, it was @freenet.columbus.oh.us) and the local Freenet provided my first access to the Internet and the WWW. If you need to contact me, please use ahaning@gmail.com (Hey, no fancy address-obfuscation crap!)

***UPDATE [07/11/04]***

I've cleaned out the Download page. Many of the links were dead and I received a couple emails about it.

Unfortunately, there are no longer any copies of the th99.tar.bz2 or th99.rar file online.

One thing I did do was to make use of FreeCache by adding http://freecache.org/ to two of the links on the Download page. Check it out. It is basically a distributed network of download servers, but you only have to click on one link.

Since there is no copy of the larger files online right now, I'd like to work on getting them available again. Another file distribution technology that I've used a lot is BitTorrent. I would REALLY like to get access to a tracker.

So, here's my plea:

I need access to either ~500 MB of webspace or a BitTorrent tracker. If you have one of these that you would be willing to supply to me, please visit my Contact page and let me know. I don't think I can really repay you, but I can thank you many times, if you'd like. Maybe I could supply you with a Gmail invite the next time I get one. (I DO NOT HAVE ANY AT THIS TIME!)

Gmail! That reminds me. If you'd like a copy of either th99free.tar.gz or th99free.tar.bz2 (both are less than 10MB) and you have an email account at gmail.com or yahoo.com, send me an email and I will forward you a copy.

That is all! Peace out, dude!

Not much updated. There are a couple new questions in the Help section. Check them out of you feel like being, well, helpful.

One thing I should probably warn people is that I'm likely not going to have the time, energy, or interest to help people out with their random hardware. I posted this collection on the net to help people figure things out themselves. If it's not in the Total Hardware 1999 collection, it is VERY UNLIKELY that I will have more information for you hidden away on my computer.

Also, I emailed someone participating in a USENET thread about the legality of providing this collection for the web at large. The person I mailed suggested that the TH99 collection is merely the MicroHouse CDs packaged up. That could certainly be true. The first version I downloaded was th99free.tar.gz. It was just the text files and was free for distribution. However, they did not have a website or anywhere that I could buy the stuff. So, I asked here for anyone who had the originals to contact me about sending them my way. I got someone to send them to me and I posted them. I have NEVER EVER received any contact from anyone at all (credible or not) requesting me to take this stuff down. Now, when you search for Total Hardware 1999, you get my site or one of its mirrors. There is no trace of MicroHouse or SupportSource left on the net. I must believe, then, that even if it is copyrighted, there is no one left to protect or worry about it anymore. It's also probably such a small market that selling this stuff isn't quite as profitable as it once was.

So, if you have any original CDs of the Total Hardware collection and you wouldn't mind providing me with a copy, you can most likely feel free to let me know.

Also, if you can provide proof that this stuff still has a rightful owner and you can provide me with an email address of someone who owns it and or you can provide me with a scan of an original Total Hardware CD, I would be most grateful.

Thanks, and happy browsing!
